Almost October

Here is a picture of grandson Jerome that I took last week when I was downstate. He is such a fun kid, and we played all kinds of "pretend" games. His favorite seems to be serving me coffee from Beaners. LOL Apparently he and dad stop there on the way to work in the morning. The playdough also affords a lot of pretend play, and we have eaten quite a few "pancakes". We bought a few small Halloween items, but only jack-o-lanterns. He said "NO" to ghosts and skeletons. Toooooo scary.

Fall is here---and it seems to have just sneaked in again. Suddenly the leaves are not green anymore, and the garden is looking decidedly bedraggled. We emptied out the fish pond today. We had quite the surprise. Our 8 large goldfish are doing fine, and we have 8 babies!!! We thought we only had two babies!!! There were a lot of pond plants this year, and the parrot weed was especially thick, so apparently a few escaped their cannibal parents. I'm glad I set up the 15 gallon tank, as they need all this extra room now. The fish are not so happy to be out of the pond, but they seem to adjust rather quickly as long as we keep the food coming.

Off again--HOORAY!!!

The knitting has slowed down a bit around here, since the weather has been super, so tennis is on the agenda almost every day. salmon are heading up the Betsie River to spawh, so some of each end of the day is spent chasing after these big brutes. Sometimes I catch and other times, I just fish. The scenery is fabulous however and the fresh air and sunshine are such a bonus. Today I only caught one small jack, and caught him twice I might add. Silly fish. However I saw a magnificent redtail hawk swoop down and terrorize some of the swamp birds. They sure put up a ruckus, but he seemed to be just passing through.

Anyway here are some of the items I'm working on right now.

I'm heading off to Lansing tomorrow about 1-ish, for 5 fun-filled days with 2 yr old grandson, Jerome. It's such fun to spend time with him, and I'm looking forward to a busy week, with lots of day trips, including a trip to see his Great Grandma, Aunt Cynthia and Aunt Dorothy. It takes about 90 minutes to get to Detroit from Lansing, and we spend two hours visiting and then head back home right at nap time, so he gets to snooze in the car. He seems to really enjoy the visits and I know great grandma and the two aunties do too.

Thursday

Since I photographed the sweaters I've made recently, I decided that the socks needed equal billing so here they are. Socks go slowly for me, since I have several pair on the needles at the same time, and only work on each sock a little at a time, then switch to another color and stitch pattern, just for fun. And of course, there are those sz. 1 needles.

I fished again last night and did catch a salmon--the first of the season for me. A nice male about 8 lbs who fought well but was not too tough to land. There were several friendly fisherman on the pier as usual, and plenty of nets to help land the fish. I gave the fish to a guy who had driven up from Onekema. Hubby catches all the salmon we could possible want to eat, and I don't even like salmon, so I mostly give them away and release them.

September is good!!

I've been knitting away and have another batch of sweaters to take over to the shop where I sell them. My creative juices have really been in high gear and I can't seem to stop from casting on a new sweater, even though I have 2 or 3 still on the needles. Here's a picture of a couple of my little beauties.

I love September and hope to do a lot of knitting and FISHING this month. The king salmon come up the Betsie River in the fall and they're fun to catch off the pier and in the river at the bridges. I tried for awhile this morning but no luck. It was beautiful though overcast. 71 degrees with a light wind made for pleasant fishing conditions. Now that I have my gear all set up, I'll go more often. I love fishing from the Railroad trestle as there is a lot of wildlife to observe. I saw a Kingfisher in action this morning and also rescued 2 baby snapping turtles who were attempting to make it from
